That’s why we’re kicking off the third year of the #BenchBadBehavior campaign. Since launching this initiative in 2022, our goal has remained the same: Addressing the bad fan behavior epidemic nationwide.
With your help, we can set the tone for this school year and make it clear that bad behavior will NOT be tolerated.

Changes to NCAA Core-Course Legislation and Process
|
|
|
What has changed?
NCAA Divisions I and II voted to change the NCAA core-course legislation. There is no longer a separate set of requirements for nontraditional courses. The updated requirements are effective for core-course reviews occurring on or after Aug. 1, 2024. |
|

|
|
|
Why did the legislation change?
NCAA core-course legislation should align with current secondary education practices, which have experienced significant shifts in recent years. Modernizing the requirements to encompass all instructional delivery models and eliminating the legislative distinction for nontraditional courses aligns with this shift. |

|
Next Step for Your High School
- Ensure your NCAA-approved core-course list is up to date.
- Submit all core courses your high school teaches that are not currently on your NCAA core-course list for review via the High School Portal.
- Submit the course title exactly as it appears on students’ transcripts, including designations with course titles indicating online programs, instructional format, etc., if applicable.
- Example: Your high school teaches Online English 1, listed on the transcript as English 1 OL. Submit the course title English 1 OL.

2024-25 Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete
Now Available!

The 2024-25 Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete is now available! The guide is designed to assist your students with understanding the NCAA, NCAA Eligibility Center registration and academic requirements, and how you can help your student-athletes work toward their collegiate dreams. This booklet is a great resource to share with your student-athletes and their families! The PDF version is available via the High School Portal's Resources page or click here to download.
Note: The printed version will be available for ordering from NCAA Publications late August. All orders received for the printed version of the guide will be fulfilled at that time. |

1. Advise Students to Register.
Encourage student-athletes wanting to study and compete at an NCAA school to register with the Eligibility Center at eligibilitycenter.org. Students should plan to register before the ninth grade (year nine of secondary school) with a free Profile Page account. Profile Page account registrants get an NCAA ID and important reminders from the Eligibility Center as they progress through high school. These accounts can be transitioned to a paid certification account at any time.
Any student planning to compete in NCAA Division I or II sports must have a certification account before going on Division I official visits, signing a National Letter of Intent or receiving an athletics scholarship.

2. Update Core-Course List.
Update your school's core-course list by visiting the High School Portal. If you believe your school's list is accurate, please log in to verify you have no updates. This will refresh your account and let our team know your core-course list is current and correct.
3. Upload Six-Semester Transcripts.
Visit the High School Portal to upload six-semester transcripts for your incoming senior student-athletes. If you have never uploaded a student-athlete's transcript, click here to learn how. If you have a student-athlete with transcripts from multiple semesters needing uploaded, please do so at your earliest opportunity so that the Eligibility Center may complete preliminary reviews.

Every May, half of the High School Advisory Group's members retire after two years of service on the committee. After reviewing over 150 submissions, we'd like to congratulate our new members and welcome our returning members! These individuals will serve a two-year tenure and work with the continuing members to provide guidance and direction to high school-related Eligibility Center projects. |

Adequate hydration before, during and after physical activity is critical to the safe and healthy participation of your students. Intense exercise, hot and humid weather and dehydration can compromise a student-athlete’s performance and increase the risk of exertional heat injury. | Is your student-athlete being recruited by a Division I school? To study and compete at a Division I school, your student-athletes must complete 10 of their 16 core courses (including seven in English, math or science) before the start of their seventh semester. | Expanding Opportunities for Students in High School Sports, Activities |
Expanding opportunities in high school sports has been the storyline of two major announcements from the NFHS this week – an incredible week that has demonstrated the value of education-based activity programs in our nation’s schools.
On Monday came the news that the NFHS will be writing playing rules for flag football – the nation’s fastest-growing emerging sport. At the request of our member state associations and with the support of the NFHS Board of Directors, the first national rules for the sport will be in place for the 2025-26 season.
Already more than 30 states have either sanctioned flag football for girls or are involved in pilot programs, and about 43,000 girls nationwide are playing the sport. With the national rules structure in place, those numbers are certain to explode over the next few years.
Yesterday, at a press conference in Indianapolis, we reported that there were more than eight million participants in high school sports in the 2023-24 school year. Talk about comebacks!
Since the first survey after the pandemic, participation in high school sports has increased 444,248 in just two years. We are really pleased to report that for the first time we had more than eight million participants in high school sports. This tells us that our schools are doing a great job trying to engage as many kids as possible in our programs.

| NFHS Launches Campaign Against Bad Behavior at Events – Enough is Enough |
| Periodically, The NFHS Voice will be presented in the form of video. This week, NFHS CEO Karissa Niehoff unveils the nationwide campaign entitled Bench Bad Behavior which is designed to end the out-of-control behavior by parents and other fans at high school sporting events. This unacceptable behavior is driving away men and women from serving as officials and threatening the future of high school sports in our country. Very simply, this unsportsmanlike behavior must stop — Enough is Enough. |
